The Kiwanis Club of Providence Point sponsors a K-Kids program at Discovery and Grand Ridge Elementary Schools in the Issaquah School District.
K-Kids is the service component of the Kiwanis Kids program. K-Kids clubs provide elementary school students with their first opportunity to learn about organizing projects that help others. Members work together in service to school and community, and develop basic leadersip skills and strong moral character.
The Grand Ridge K-Kids are our newest club. Here is a summary of the service projects the students have been involved with this school year.
October - was "Make the World a Less Scary Place" month. We made over 100 treat bags and survival kits for local firefighters and police officers. We had a visit from our local fire station as well.
November - "Give Thanks to our Military" month. We spent the month honoring active duty members by mailing over 100 pounds of goodies/books/letters to them. We honored Veteran's by making 30 fleece blankets and presenting them at a Veteran's Day ceremony.
December - "Season of Giving" month. We made 24 care packages for homeless and delivered over 30 cookie baskets to Tent City #4. We also went caroling in the Highlands.
January - "Be Healthy and Live Long" month. We had a special health coach come and teach the kids about good food choices and exercise. We also went to Providence Marianwood and played games with the residents.
In February, we will honor "Our Love for Animals." We've already made over 200 toys for cats and dogs. We will be visiting and working at a local animal shelter as well.
